why do we even have to have this discussion

hey am I the only person who is genuinely concerned + confused + mortified that people legit think there’s bending privilege in the Avatar: The Last Airbender universe while completely ignoring/glossing over class and how that’s probably gonna be the one of the bigger things besides Amon and his shit

I mean seriously, if it turns out LoK is all about how shitty it is to be poor (which it - kind of looks like it might be) when all some SJWs can think of is bending privilege, which neither exists in the real world and doesn’t seem to be an actual privilege in the Avatar world (yo what’s up here’s a lot of privileged non-benders, please enjoy) I will spout flames from the side of my face because how privileged do you have to be to ignore the fact that Korra comes from class privilege (b/c of the white lotus she’s not had to worry about food or shelter or money since childhood and she gets to play pro-bending for sport) while Bolin and Mako don’t (they are in pro-bending primarily for money and to survive they’ve had to take out loans, work odd jobs, beg on the street, work in gangs, etc, things actual poor people in our actual world have to actually do to survive)
That’s like, the epitome of class privilege, ya’ll. People who don’t have to worry about money can do things poor people have to do for survival, but they get to do it for fun.

if you HAVE to have your bending privilege shenanigans, don’t make it the forefront of your praise for LoK. It’s actually tackling class issues, without being heavy-handed. Talk about that shit, and educate yourself. Check your class privilege. Don’t ignore it. If you DO ignore it, guess what: you’re being privileged, you lucky fucks! I WISH I COULD BE YOU BUT I CAN’T BECAUSE I’M POOR.
